The HistoGenes ERC Synergy project held its annual plenary meeting from 14 to 17 April this year at Castle Ringberg in Bavaria. As the project nears completion, the aim of the meeting was to discuss the tasks for its final year.
Researchers from Hungary, Germany, the Czech Republic, Austria, Slovenia, and the United States attended the event, with our institute represented by Yusuf Can Özdemir, Balázs Mende, Anna Szécsényi-Nagy, and Balázs Gyuris (pictured below, from left to right).
The participants of the project, which examines the population changes and living conditions in East-Central Europe during the early Middle Ages, also began preparations for a volume summarising their findings. Smaller, multidisciplinary international teams will work on the chapters synthesising key topics.
The concluding conference of the HistoGenes project will take place in Vienna in February 2026.
