The "Communities of Dark Times" conference was organized by the Déri Museum in Debrecen on February 27–28, 2025. The presentations, covering a variety of research topics related to the Late Roman period and the Migration period, also provided insight into the work of several colleagues from the Institute of Archaeogenomics.

  • Balázs Gyuris presented the results of a multidisciplinary (archaeogenetic, archaeological, and isotopic) study of the Kölked-Feketekapu cemetery, showcasing the evolution of social relations in the Avar period in the Southern Transdanubia. Based on the whole genome analysis of ancient DNA samples taken as part of the HistoGenes project, as well as carbon/nitrogen and strontium isotopic analyses of additional samples and archaeological observations, he presented the emerging trends in the cemetery.
